History
Wynbring Jida Child Care Centre was opened in 1986 as the Whyalla Aboriginal Child Care Centre. In 1988 the centre was renamed by a local Aboriginal elder , Phyllis Croft. The name Wynbring Jida meaning “Whistling Bird” this name was chosen because it is a reflection of the happy sounds children make when engaged in play, as does the bird. It is a happy name and it reflects our aim of providing a positive enjoyable environment for the children to grow and learn.
Wynbring Jida will care for children attending our service with a holistic approach, and as an Aboriginal Community Service, we will include all children and families regardless of their race, religion or socio-economic standing.

Nurturing
We will provide a safe, supportive and nurturing environment with an educational program to assist children in reaching their full developmental potential using the Early Years Framework. Families will be supported with their caregiving and have access to community information and resources.
We will maintain and improve positive and respectful relationships with all families and community members whilst respecting cultural diversity and incorporating the child’s home culture with culturally inclusive programming. We believe that families are the first educators of the child and we will support their values and beliefs. We will continue to practice and improve upon Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing respectfully, and will provide children with child focussed, spontaneous, play based pedagogies to support our children to become informed global citizens.

Costs
Sessions of Care –
full day 7.45 to 5.45pm $92 per day
Morning half sessions 7.45am to 12.45pm ($46 for 5 hours)
Afternoon half session 12:45pm to 5:45pm ($46 for 5 hours)
Parents are encouraged to apply for Child Care Subsidy (CSS) Payment through their MyGov account to cover a percentage of the care.
Centre operating hours
Wynbring Jida Child Care Centre operates from 7:45am til 5.45pm Monday to Friday. We are open during the school holidays and school closure days, but closed on Public holidays and for 2 weeks over Christmas.
